Hello!
The Children’s Equipping Center has been a little quieter this past month as we gear up for the new year - except if you were to include "Girls Night" on Thursdays for the CEC staff (see picture above). Our newest endeavor that I am so honored to be a part of is to write a children’s book series based on a book Mike Bickle and Deborah Hiebert wrote called "The Seven Longings of the Human Heart". The book goes through seven longings or desires that every person feels at some point in their life and how often we fill these desires with the things of the world, or we completely deny and ignore this ache and in doing so we kill our hearts. Longings such as the desire to be great, to be beautiful, to be fascinated and to be wholehearted were all created by God within us – therefore these desires are not bad or evil. Unfortunately, we have filled these longings with the things of this world, which will never fully satisfy us, when in truth they were all meant to be fulfilled and satisfied in God.
The current generation is completely overwhelmed by the media, movies and music that sends a message that the only way to really be satisfied or to be all that you can be is to be whatever it is they are selling. What would it look like if an entire generation walked in the truth of who they were really created to be, instead of what our culture tells them they should be? What if an entire generation let God fulfill their longings instead of drugs, alcohol and sex? It is the CEC’s vision to write a series for kids who will then be equipped to walk out their adolescent and young adult years in the knowledge and truth of who they were created to be and how God himself can fill these longings. Even in the beginning stages, we are so excited to see how this message changes and brings freedom to young children’s hearts.
In my personal time in the prayer room, I have been learning more and more about the wilderness of God. No one really wants to go to the wilderness or the desert – its lonely, hard, and you don’t really "feel" God while you’re there. Yet if you look at the pattern of people the Lord has invited into the wilderness you will find some of the most powerful and greatest men and women of faith in the whole Bible. Abraham, Moses, John the Baptist, and Jesus himself were all sent to the wilderness and each of them came out with the power and glory of God. As many of our leaders here at IHOP-KC say "The wilderness is the place of encounter". So although the thought of entering the wilderness fills me with uncertainty, I know I have to go to this place if I want to encounter the Lord and be filled with His power and His glory.
Grace to those who feel the same invitation! Thank you again for all your prayers and support! Please email or write me with any prayer requests you, your family, or church may need, or if you would like to know how you can support my ministry here at IHOP-KC. Have a wonderful and blessed month!
Grace and Peace,
Rebecca
